In 2002 when I visited Africa and walked into a prepaid mobile phone store, I had no idea that I would dedicate the next 13 years to the pursuit of financial inclusion. My Journey to Financial Inclusion Blog explains how it all started.
Back then Banking for All seemed like a straight forward path. Take mobile phones add mobile bank accounts, and banking for all would be a reality. As time went by the path unfolded as much more complex yet more abundant in opportunity. It takes many organizations and people to achieve what is possible; policy makers, banks, telecommunication companies, retailers, and entrepreneurs.
Financial Inclusion at the Bottom of the Pyramid (Link to Book on Amazon) which I co-authored with Karl Mehta, is engaging, informative and inspirational. It promises and delivers a deep understanding of the exciting technology advances that are changing the landscape of banking globally. One reviewer commented “It reads like a fast paced novel, can’t wait for the sequel”, another “The end of poverty is within our reach and this brilliant book explains how and why”.
The book tells many great stories about the work of innovators around the world. From India, Bangladesh, Peru, US, South Africa, these entrepreneurs are doing much more than basic banking. Their offerings include insurance, investments, credit, even virtual currency.
We are looking forward to your comments – write an Amazon review, send us a guest blog, send us a tweet, linkedin or Facebook post. Can’t wait to hear from all of you.
